Let's get one thing straight. The word is through. As in, 'I went through the doorway', not 'I went threw the doorway'. Another. It's 'I miss you', not 'I miss ewe'. Well, unless you are speaking to a female member of the ovine species. Reading 'Eye no' as opposed to 'I know' is incredibly annoying and you deserve to be beaten with your keyboard.
It is neither cute nor clever. Unless you are 12 years old. Then, it may be clever - and only in reference to using the word 'ewe'.
In any sort of electronic communication, people tend to abbreviate where it makes sense. Fine, that's a different concept altogether. Even bypassing an 's' for a 'z' can be tolerated. Think friendz, guyz, you get the idea. But swapping one word for another is just plain aggravating and screams 'since I can't really be clever, I'll attempt to do so with my fascinating misuse and skewed interpretation of the language'.
Here's some feedback folks, it doesn't work! The only thing it accomplishes is that it makes me never want to set eyes on anything you write, ever again.

I have to take umbrage, here.
Albeit in a gentle way, as between friends.
But i think the English language is there to be corrupted and used and abused to the maximum. So long as we know what words we are playing with and how to use them. And don't use them lazily.
And may i just say:
I've missed yew enormously!

if anyone sent me a message like 'how RU' I'd immediately ignore them - I may come off like an idiot EVENTUALLY - but these people seem to be in a hurry to make that point clear - well I'll say one thing... it's a huge time saver!! hehehe

Ehm, soemthimes that kind of word swapping is the sign of a foreigner, not thinking when typing. . . ;)
Saturnyne - I do agree, we all take liberties with words, it's personal preference, and in many cases, style. So, yew missed me, eh? As long as yew missed the other trees too, that's fine. ;) I've miised you, erm, yew, too! =)

Terri - Lol... that link is great, I actually saved it. I have a mental block for it's and its; never could keep them straight!
Kitty - I can handle the 'how r u' bits better than switching 'I' and 'eye'. This post came about because I have a friend (former coworker) who insists on doing that. We'll be IMing and it appears he's typing away feverishly only to get a three word response that is comprised of all word substitutes. GAH!!!
Tigress - We're all foreigners to someone, doll! (See above comment for my real reason on writing this.) Probably has to do with the fact that I'm just anal retentive about things, too. ;)

I agree. It's not cute. It's one thing to abbreviate, it's another thing just to F up the language.
I know it can be irritating, but I have to admit... it is hilarious at the same time.
Reminds me of what I do when I try to write something in Afrikaans. The brain and the fingers are completely out of sync.
Renee - If there's a point to it, I can tolerate it. But people that I know are NOT teens switching words thinking it's cute makes me want to gag. Blech!
Chitty - Ok, it can be pretty funny! And if we're dealing wih translation issues, that is understandable. Perhaps you could amuse me and have a few drinks prior to the translation... =)
