Hot days & sweet nights

I don't want to brag about my oh-so-exciting life or anything, but I wanted to show you how I spent my day today. Please, refrain from fits of jealous rage and bouts of undeniable envy. (Ahem...)

This would be my homemade salsa. Proof that I do occasionally cook. The peppers look dark and weird because they were freshly fire roasted; they are not diseased.

Some assembly required.

Fully assembled.

This next little beauty is a Red Velvet Cherry Torte. I started with a recipe and tweaked a few things to make it more to my liking. Baking is way too exact for me, so you are most likely looking at my semi-annual cake. Quarterly cake if it's a busy year...

One helpful hint. Should you ever serve a red velvet cake you may want to keep in mind that the coloring will tint, um, various bodily excretions red. You may wish to tell this only to those you like. Let the rest squirm. And that is my helpful hint. Cake anyone?

After all the careful prep work and assembly, it would appear that the heat and humidity is lending a Burton-esque tilty look to it. Perhaps they call that 'melting'. Oh well - they'll eat it without pause; of that I am sure. I also learned that it is Chris Cornell's birthday (#41); I think he should come claim a piece from me directly.

It all looks delicious! Lately my culinary skills extend to taking a frozen pizza out of the freezer & popping it in the oven.

I am so not happy right now. "Lucy McGN" had a party and did not invite me.
Say, I have a b-day coming up. Think you can swing by here and put something together on that day?

Terri - That's often what mine consists of: frozen, raw, or occasionally out of a can! =)

Anne - This might be the extent of my sharing (don't know much more...lol) but I'd be more than happy to share them. I'll throw it together and post it in case anyone else wants it.

JohnH - Certainly all this food didn't make you hungry...

Chitty - It was for work. If I'd have invited you, you'd have been forced to do some actual work! =) I'll come whip something up for you for the bday; no prob. Love to see SA so this'll be good timing!

Rose - Our new plan: kidnap Cornell and feed him these items until he gives in to us... oh yeah, and use our feminine wiles.

Kevin - Did you see my cilantro? That's the stuff I grew! (All students love food!)

Carpy - Sorry to have made you go back on your word. I guarantee it is tastier in person - not on the monitor. You, uh, didn't get shocked, did you? =)

Ken - Welcome! Thanks so much. Well, I will be posting these recipes but unfortunately I don't have many more. I make most things up as I go along!

Jenn - Hey wait... isn't that along the lines of what the big bad wolf says just before the big 'chomp'?!

Ostrich - Glad you are back! You can always use the "Carpy Method of Monitor Licking' as well.

Alex - Thanks! The salsa is my personal favorite!

Homemade salsa is the best. A couple of years ago I made the most incredible batch using tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, and herbs from my grandmother's garden (all of which I helped plant). I think the homegrown veggies made it extra good. *drool*

GAH! You're such a multitalented person. Cooking is most definitely the farthest from my forte. *Jealousy ensues at your cooking skills*

Eh. You owe me a monitor. The last one got... er, licked badly.

Seriously, the cake looks great indeed. You ever think of going into business with that?

Hurray! ;)

Yum!

Now I'm hungry (like THAT'S something new!) ;)

Skram - I agree; the homegrown veggies make it better. And fresh salsa is always better because it is less smooshy!

Hans - Don't worry, my cooking skills are not that extensive. Emeril has nothing to worry about!

Banzai Cat - Oh no... not another monitor gone due to culinary enforced salivation. As far as a business venture; uh, wanna buy a cake? =)

Anne - Recipes tonight! =)

Beelze - How does it not surprise me that you would hone in on that part...lol! No bowing; just help me invent a cookie recipe that'll have the same effect! They are easier to distribute. =)

Stacy - I'd gladly share but I'm afraid that big rodent down there will get to it first!

our new plan! hahahahahhahahahah!!!!!

you crack me up.

Luke - If you can get this page to Chris, I'll make you a month's worth of cakes!

Heidi - Just give me your ETA and I'll feed you and the troops with cake and salsa on the way through!

Rose - Well he's not just gonna show up on our doorstep otherwise. Uh, is he???? =)

Motor - You want me to drop ship some to ya'?

My hunger problem is now solved, but if you could do that then I'm sure I would be hungry again by the time it arrived! My hunger is never far away!
