I assure you, I've been trying to hold back...
I've just failed miserably.
Yes folks, it's 6 weeks until Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is released and I am bursting at the seams with excitement. (This would be a good time to check out the link I have so lovingly provided, including the flash site... lots of fun toys on there.)
We know that when Timmy and Johnny team up there will be lots of quirks, peculiar affectations, unsettling scenarios and this time, a pale, creepy recluse clad in a deep red velvet coat and top hat. I know it's odd to admit but WOW... this is one children's book character that has an effect on me like no other... I'm only hoping that my local IMAX runs this as it is being released concurrently; IMAX and standard theaters. After seeing a 40 foot tall Burton-esque Wonka portrayed by the king of quirk himself, Johnny Depp, I'd best hope I don't slide off my seat during the show. Ahem...
Anyway... Factory Tours begin soon... while you're here, take a peek at the site address; have you seen any others starting like that with a '2' before the dot?
One helpful hint... when you watch the clip, turn your sound down if you don't want the song stuck in your head all damn day. Just fair warning...

oh good god, you don't even KNOW how excited I am for this movie to come out! I just saw a preview in the theaters... holy crap, so freaking excited. My friend even got me a willy wonka shirt, so of COURSE I'm going to be a giant nerd and wear it to go see the movie!
I love the fact it's going in a different direction to the original. I've seen that so many times now that for a newcomer to try and ape it would be painful to see.
90% of Burton's recent have hit the mark and Depp is on good form so I'm holding out great hopes.
I just hope they're selling Oompa Loompa's in the cinema shop - real ones, that is.....
Johnny Depp can turn damn near anything into gold, it seems...:)
I can't wait for this one either...looks a little quirky but that's what Tim is all about...:)
I am the definitive big soft kid and I love all of these daft films.
So let's summerize: we have Tim Burton directing a film adaptation of a Roald Dahl book staring Johnny Depp.
Sounds like a recipe for success .. sorry, I couldn't resist.
Let's face it, Roald Dahl was dark enough anyway with Tim Burton adding to the mix .. damn, that's another piss-poor culinary reference.
I'll have to go and get a new girlfriend to go and see it with since I can't see any of my mates wanting to go...
I can't wait either. It's the only summer movie that I'm actually excited about.
I hadn't paid any attention at all to this one. I think Gene Wilder forever scarred me WITH HIS RANDOM SHOUTING! Johnny Depp should be much better. Or at least much quieter.
Hans - I heard about those shirts! I shop as little as possible so I've yet to see them first hand. I bet it is fabulous!
Valhalla - I'm going to remain optimistic... the visuals alone will be great and with Depp's added level of 'strange'...perhaps it is an acquired taste?
Carpy - Oh I DO hope they sell out of Oompa Loompas in the UK... they scare me. Always have. 'Course then that's one way to assure I'll never set foot in the UK. In this version, there is only one (Deep Roy) and camera tricks make it appear to be many. One way to save on casting I suppose.
Stacy - Depp is a fairly new interest of mine and I get so involved in his peculiarities. Burton is just a treasure trove of the bizarre. Combine them and I'm a happy girl. =)
Wayne - You old softie, you! =) Dahl was a bit dark but I think folks tend to overlook that due to Gene Wilder being cast in the film. I think Dahl+Burton+Depp will be really intense. Anything that has a thinly veiled layer of dark humor and sarcasm toward grubby children gets a vote from me. And I read an interview where Depp claims to have based some of the characters mannerisms on Marilyn Manson. That sinister leer makes more sense now, doesn't it? Oops. Sorry; I forgot to shut up. Anyway. I'd have offered to go with you but you insisted on making those culinary references...lol. Besides, I would have had you fitted for 'the outfit'! =)
Skrambled - What other movies? There are other movies? Huh...
Memphis Steve - Yes, I know what you mean about Gene Wilder and the SHOUTING. He would not have been my choice for the role but I'll be happier with Depp. I've seen a couple trailers and he has very dark and subtle undertones to quite a bit of it. And so far... quieter. Personally, I was scarred by the unsanitary and germ ridden activity of licking the wallpaper. Ick.

That's funny, and the source of a school boy flash-back to a science teacher called Mr. Dalton.
Quite possibly one of the most bizarre guys on Earth.
I'm sure he suffered from some Tourette's derivative...
I really hope it lives up to your expectations. I'll be sticking to the classic.
I think it will be good and that you won't be disappointed. Then again, I stopped maturing at around age 12, so it takes very little to impress me... hehe.
Depp has surpised me greatly in recent years with his diversity and he is well suited for roles like this.
Wayne - In regard to the Tourette's, are we talking about Gene Wilder or Mr. Dalton? But you know, I think being odd is a pre-requisite for being a science teacher.
Jay - thanks, I am looking forward to it.
Chitty - I wondered why I liked you... I often refer to myself as being 12. =) I thinks Depps quirks are perfect for this role. I'm waiting for the action figure, too.
Heidi - perhaps we can obsess together. And since the restraining order, I can't get too close anyway, so it should be alright... =)
