Let go of that squirrel's nuts!
I've just got to... I'm terribly, terribly weak...
Three little weeks until Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opens. I have lovingly and thoughtfully provided the link to the new theatrical trailer; however, you will actually be required to click on the one that says... come on, say it with me... theatrical trailer - very nice! It's 2.5 minutes of Tim Burton's skewed and idiosyncratic view of this classic and Johnny Depp's velvet enshrouded eccentricities brought together with some pretty kick ass color saturation techniques.
Lots of sarcasm and disdain where the kiddies are concerned... what could be better?! Although I will admit that the actor that plays Charlie (Freddie Highmore) has more talent in his prepubescent little finger than many other popular actors house in their entire being. That's just my opinion.
We all know I'm interested mainly due to a particularly pallid gent with a top hat. Burton is wonderful, but I'd be lying if I denied my true attraction to the film.
Now... off to make a paper chain.... {skips off singing: Willy Wonka, Willy Wonka...}

I can't wait either. I was meaning to ask you if you heard Gene Wilder's comments on it a couple of weeks ago. I think the guy has become a grumpy old man.
I saw the trailer in the coming attractions before Batman and it is very strange looking...looks very interesting, but this is going to be a strange movie. But what else should we expect from Mr. Dep and Burton? But strange in a good way of course.
i have mixed feelings on the movie, but hell yeah i'm gonna see it as soon as i get the chance.
Isn't it strange (in a wonderful way) that it's released at the same time in France? That way, I won't have to suffer like I did for Sin City...
forgive me if i seem shouty or snobbish, it is not my intention.
i'm not a fan of tim burton at all, he always seems to me like he's trying too hard to be 'out there' or even better 'wAckY!' for the sake of it. the same with his enormous range of merchandising. for example "Tim Burtons ghoulish toys for girls and boys", carefully tailored to say 'look at my, i'm alternative'. since when could you brand counter-culture?
plus he made planet of the apes, which despite it's exquisite visuals (a trait this and all other burton features share) still had a terminal lack of substance which no one could dispute.
Johnny Depp i like,he's an actor who actually acts and plays different roles, how scandalous! But Burton films i dislike immensely.
i await the inevitable backlash.
i menat to say 'look at me' of course. bloody typos.
Bernice - I must say, you have a rather interesting blog. I do love the glamour shot. Besides, nothing wrong with a little dust... thanks for the visit!
Skrambled - I can understand him being 'grumpy' over it all. No matter, he will always be Willy Wonka (thanks for the link). This is just a newer, slightly darker version. So, shall we make a date for opening night? hehe
JohnH - Yes John, very interesting and rather strange. Much like me! =)
Mr. Decko - I think you should go, I get the idea (don't have any idea why...) that you see things a little differnt as well. Just enjoy the oddity of it all.
Valhalla - How true... fonts of wisdom. But I've never been a fan of his hair, so I can't follow him on this one.
Anne - Suffer not then! Woohoo! I've finally figured out why movies are usually released in the States first. See, we're a dim lot... takes us weeks, sometimes months, to actually figure out the plot. In having different release dates, by the time the rest of the world is seeing their 'new release', we've finally figured it all out and are capable of discussing it with our fellow bloggers overseas. Well, that's my theory anyway...
Prisoner - Your comment was fine, not to worry. And I can see how you could get that impression of Burton. I don't know him, so you might be right for all I know. I just know that watching his films is a feast for the eyes and a kickstart for the imagination. It takes me far away and therein lies his appeal. Lol... scandalous indeed for actually, uh, acting. To be truthful, his variety of roles (and most often peculiar ones) is why I like him. He becomes each character, making it a delight to watch him.
I sincerely hope that the movie lives up to everyone's expectations, but the old classic one is beloved to me, and I refuse to be disloyal to it.
Johnny Depp and chocolate...what more could a girl possibly need???
Yeah, I want to see this one too...even if Johnny does have to wear those weird teeth....
That Highmore kid was great in Finding Neverland. Haven't seen him in anything else, but from that I think he's going to be great as Charlie
Jay - I expect a visual treat; that's it. And I can appreciate your loyalty.
Stacy - yeah, the teeth are a bit odd...
Fence - He's a kid that actually acts like a (gasp) kid. =)
Jenn - I also think this will be closer to the book, or maybe it seems that way due to current times, hard to say. Depp is always a sure bet when it comes to holding my interest, too! Oh, and I've not read the book you mentioned.
I watched From Hell for the first time, t'other day.
I don't think I've seen Mr. Depp turn out a bad film.
He's quite an actor.
One who's brave enough to try different things...
I am also looking forward to it, mainly due to Johnny Depp, although not for the same reason as some of you, I love his ACTING. I also love Tim Burton films, due to the fact that I enjoy watching them, which is as much a reason to like something as anything else is, as films are entertainment after all(Mainly).
Jenn - You have just given me another thing to add to my list. =)
Wayne - That is actually why I like Depp, he has amassed quite a variety of roles and does not disappoint. Very diverse. But I will say that From Hell has the best on screen kiss I've see.
Motormouth - His acting is tops with me. That is what drew me to him. I really only like looking at him when he's in character: Edward Scissorhands, Willy Wonka, and the good Captain, Jack Sparrow. Uh oh, maybe that's not a thing I should be admitting so freely to...
He really is a great actor, and good enough to make even me shed a tear at the end of finding neverland. If he doesn't one day win an oscar then it would be a travesty of justice.
