A monkey in the gears

Talk about a mish-mosh post. Just a few things clinging to my brain more than others at this moment, so as usual, you will be subjected to it. Lucky you. ;)

First, might I take this moment to say that I hate text messaging? No, I mean I think it is rude. Who are you to assume that I would like to pay extra to read your truncated version of three words that I'll most likely not understand anyway? See, at that point I end up calling you and what do you know - I can understand you and it's included in my plan! So, you could call me, but you instead make the incorrect assumption that I'd like to decipher your version of shorthand. I would not like to. I doubt I will ever like to. Do not text message me. I hate it and I will hate you. Moving right along...

Here's proof of the miracles that can be performed these days with arthroscopic surgery. See those two little teeny (redundant, I know) incisions? That's it. No huge map-like wounds to heal. There's still swelling and some bruising, but I think minimally invasive surgical procedures are fantastic. Three more weeks on crutches. That may be the part that rakes up my last bits of sanity and drop kicks it with one rigid, aluminum, rubber-stopped leg.

There are wheels turning in my head. Ok, I'll admit, perhaps not so much 'turning' as doggedly grinding away ages of rust and fighting against the remains of a lifetime of over used tar-like grease that has gummed up the works. Sometimes (which I think may be my new favorite word) I think I can hear it all going on up there. This fight between the old and new. The stagnant grip of complacency battling the determined emergence of a far away hope.
Before I go further I need to think. About that last part I wrote, I need to add to it. In another post because I think it's a life theme. But there is something going on in my head about that. For now, here's a picture of my new favorite tree. Yes, I have favorite trees. I only know them when I see them, I can't hunt for them. But this one I found by taking a wrong turn. Perhaps that's a concept we can all identify with at some point.

Absolutely gorgeous! I haven't identified the tree but it is huge; the small items underneath near the trunk are actually large wooden adirondack chairs. I may go back and see this spectacular tree with leaves but I like it just as it is here. Maybe it doesn't even have leaves anymore. It's perched right at the edge of the lake. I really wish each of you could see it; of course the property owners might not be too thrilled...

That is a great looking tree.

And I agree with you 100% about text messaging. I have friends that will spend their whole time text messaging when they could have had the whole conversation in ten minutes instead. It drives me crazy when I'm with friends and instead of concentrating on whatever we're doing they're too busy text messaging. It drives me crazy.

Glad to see things are going good, or as good as can be after surgery.

I don't have a cell phone but I bet if I did I would hate text messaging too!! I can't stand the abbreviations I see people doing in emails and comments and whatnot and I'm sure it's worse on the phone!!

I have favorite trees too!! one in particular that we drive past at least once a week and I say almost every time 'there's that tree I love!!' I always wish I had my camera with me so I can get a picture of it but the lighting is always wrong anyway... it's 5 minutes away so I should really just make Sam take me there when the lighting is right haaaa

anyway... your knee doesn't look bad at all... you'll be up and running in no time!! for now I suggest you enjoy this excuse to be on your ass hehehe

The knee looks good (yes it's all relative, I know). And you should take wrong turns more often - that's a beautiful tree! Looks like a good spot to sit and contemplate.

Saturnyne - Well hi there handsome! Every now and then I lose track of you; glad to see you again. You need a GPS! =)

Kate - It's actually well on it's way. Still swollen and such, but I can handle it!

John - Welcome back! Just yesterday I blocked texting on my phone. Like you, I think it makes things more difficult.

Kitty - I even know people that text while driving. Not with me in the car and hopefully not on any road I'll ever be on! I think since you live near your tree, you should make him take you over! I'd love to see it. I'm going to post my Edward Scissorhands tree, which technically, should be called a Tim Burton tree - it's all twisty and stuff. Some trees I'll admire from afar... remember the tree in the movie The Legend of Sleepy Hollow?! AHH! For the record, I do kind like sitting around on my ass, but I get bored. It's a new thing for me!!

Terri - Heh, my 'trees-n-knees' post as it turns out, eh? Said knee is doing well and it amazes me that they just shove instruments in little holes versus cutting a big gash down over your knee. Modern medicine is grand. If I sat by that tree I'd be blissfully happy - it's right on the lake. Is it wrong that I like trees better than humans, lol?

Wrong? I hope not. sometimes I do too!

Terri - Guess that means there are either some pretty spectacular trees or some real idiots! ;)

Definitely an oak, almost certainly in the white oak group. Absolutely gorgeous. I have had favorite trees for as long as I can remember, and I still do. I think the better of people who do the same!

Your knee looks much like mine did! And still does, to some extent, though I'm sure mine is less acutely sore than yours. I hope you're healing well - do your PT as prescribed! I'm not finger-shaking, I'm just saying it's well worth it.

I hope you're doing alright. Say hello to Ohio for me - there are times when I miss it!

Anne - I thought you might like it. Learning that other people have favorite trees is pretty nifty, I think. In regard to the knee, I've been trying to do what I was told: minimal weight bearing, increase range of motion, work on strength. Of course it was raining here today and I almost did a 'Bambi' with wet crutches on the floor! Are you still doing PT? Looking forward to no crutches.

I like your tree too. It's gorgeous! Glad that your recovery is going well.

Anduin - Some day I may get hauled away for sitting under that tree, trespassing on private property. If my knee heals well, maybe I can outrun them. ;)
