Wise Words

Last year on my lone trek to Canada, I found a great little card in Sarnia and had to buy it because it seemed so profound. I actually put in my bedroom where I see it daily and it always gives me something to think about.

Discover what you are.
~Henry Ward Beecher
Not who, but what. It is truly something to ponder. Simple, but it can open so many doors.

Well that was freaky...
I fell back off the Next blog wagon and click - click - click - wait a sec, I know this place...

So over the past year have you closed in on a discovery yet?

another great quote by Beecher,
"The power of hiding ourselves from one another is mercifully given, for men are wild beasts, and would devour one another but for this protection."

and a comment along similar lines that I have always loved, from Henry David Thoreau: We are constantly invited to be what we are.

Er... I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Oh damn, the fire alarm has gone off. Just gotta finish posting this comment first... OK OK I'm evacuating....!

Sorry, I can't help myself! I'd suggest a slight revision.

Decide what you are.

Discovering that takes years and years. I'm still finding out new stuff about me. There's so much inside of us that needs to be shared.

Farzad - My pleasure, I think it's something we all need to be reminded of.

Tom - Yes, I'm everywhere...lol. I discover things all the time, then of course my horrible memory forgets them. Maybe it's the same thing I 'discover' over and over. You think? That is an exceptional quote you added; I'd not heard it!

Jarvenpa - Thanks for stopping by with such an inspiring quote. that one really hits home for me now; thank you!

Terri - Lol... I'm discovering that you are now setting fires to avoid blog comments. Nice ;)

Me - Indeed it is! That is the beauty of it - if we choose to see it.

Jason - You crack me up. A revision... =) But I agree, you must take the reins in your own life.

Anduin - If we ever stop discovering, or looking to discover, a large part of us ceases to be. There will always be new stuff... always.

Unless you are a snake, in which case you'll need to ask someone with opposable thumbs to help.

I LIKE that quote...:)

Unfortunately, I'm still looking for myself...but I'm closer than I was a few years ago! ;)

what u are?dont really like it..sounds so "material"..who u are is more profound..
MWAH..i'm in the "kiss" mood this morning.

I would never...! ;-)
So, basically what you're saying is that all this time I've been asking myself the wrong question. It's not who it's what. No wonder I'm so confused!

A wise q indeed. Somewhat this keeps reminding us we ain't anything but an object moving for a while perhaps :-)

Kyknoord - Those thumbs do come in rather handy. Uh, no pun intended. ;)

Stacy - You know, I think the discoveries come in bits and pieces. As long as you're trying and open to it, it's a success.

Foulla - Hi there; nice to see you! Although I see how it might come across as 'material', I suppose I look at it in more of a primal way. What makes you tick? What makes you truly do and think what you do? As for 'who' I am, that changes without notice sometimes. =) I think that's the fun of interpretation - MWAH right back to ya!

Terri - Oh, if you listen to me I'll just get you more confused! At least you'll have a scapegoat!

Dr O2 - In essence, yes. But it's what we actually do during that time that means something, no matter how brief. The best way is to know yourself.

wise words indeed.

so what are you then?

LiVEwiRe said...

Prisoner - What am I? Many different things all clamoring to get out at once yet hide at the same time. Of course many have said that I'm full of piss and vinegar... does that count? =)
